You can either connect a MAX232 level converter and access the device via a RS232 cable or you can directly connect a USB serial converter.<\/p>\n<p>On this page you can see different schematics that realize the dtv2ser device with alternate connection options.<\/p>\n<h3>The dtv2ser+usb<\/h3>\n<p>dtv2ser+usb is a small SMD board design that is included starting with the dtv2ser 0.2 release.<\/p>\n<p>It includes a FT 232 RL serial-to-USB chip that is directly connected to the USB type A male connector.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the Schematic done with Eagle:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lallafa.de\/images\/dtv2ser%2Busb\/dtv2usb-sch.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lallafa.de\/images\/dtv2ser%2Busb\/dtv2usb-sch-thumb.png?w=584&#038;ssl=1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is the Board Design that realizes a USB-stick-like design and fits nicely in an old USB stick case:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lallafa.de\/images\/dtv2ser%2Busb\/dtv2usb-brd.png?w=584&#038;ssl=1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of my prototype boards:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lallafa.de\/images\/dtv2ser%2Busb\/dtv2ser%2Busb_pcb2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lallafa.de\/images\/dtv2ser%2Busb\/dtv2ser%2Busb_pcb2-thumb.jpg?w=584&#038;ssl=1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And finally the first three assembled boards:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/images\/dtv2ser+usb\/dtv2ser+usb_prod.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/dtv2ser+usb\/dtv2ser+usb_prod-thumb.jpg\" title=\"dtv2ser case\" alt=\"dtv2ser+usb devices\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>The cvm8board<\/h3>\n<p>dtv2ser on the cvm8board is implemented with a small ATmega8 based board, a MAX232A serial converter and some extra parts. The total cost of all parts is lower than 10 EUR.<\/p>\n<p>The board has a DB9 connector for both the RS232 serial connection and the DTV dtvtrans joystick port.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, only the schematic of the board is available and my hand-made prototypes.
